Hi Everyone
Ormskirk College will be running a new 26 week course in Digital Imaging (Photoshop) from Monday 9th November 2009. 7.00pm to 9.00pm (I know that is next week). This course is only being advertised to students who have attended my 6 and 10 week beginner courses, not the general public.
The course will review skills already learnt and build upon that knowledge to ensure that all the common skills required to use Photoshop efficiently are achieved.
At the moment only one course (14 places) is being run, however if there is enough students for a second class then I will see if a second night is possible.
The course is titled: NCFE Level 1 Creative Craft using Digital Imaging (Don’t let the name confuse you). It will cost £170.00 in total.
To be awarded the NCFE Level 1 Award in Creative Craft using Digital Imaging, learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units.
Unit 01 Explore available resources to develop basic digital imaging skills
“In this section you will learn how to use the basic Photoshop Tools and we will look at hardware such as Cameras, Scanners and Printers.”
With support and guidance from the Tutor/Supervisor, learners will familiarise themselves with digital imaging materials, resources, tools and equipment. Using given starting points, learners are encouraged to explore different materials and techniques for making items and will explore the visual and/or tactile qualities of them. By the end of this unit learners will have developed sufficient skills and knowledge to allow them to take ideas forward for development. Learners will also cover Health and Safety procedures relevant to the chosen resources and techniques.
The learner will:
1. Explore available resources to develop basic digital imaging skills
The Learner can:
1.1 Explore the characteristics of available digital imaging resources
1.2 Identify a range of suitable materials and techniques
1.3 Explore a range of tools and equipment for digital imaging
1.4 Explore and develop basic digital imaging skills
1.5 Maintain a safe working environment
Unit 02 Explore and develop digital imaging ideas creatively.
“In this section you will begin to use the skills you have learnt in Unit 1 effectively, accurately and creatively.”
Learners will explore digital imaging items and the work of other specialists to develop their own ideas. They will work with the Tutor/Supervisor to explore the possibilities and constraints of these ideas, and decide which can be taken forward for development. Learners will record their observations and experiences appropriately and will adapt their work in response to feedback from the Tutor/Supervisor.
Learners will also follow Health and Safety procedures in the development of ideas.
The Learner will:
1. Explore and develop digital imaging ideas creatively
The learner can:
1.1 Identify and use a range of different sources to collect ideas for development
1.2 Record ideas, observations and experiences
1.3 Discuss a range of digital imaging ideas with Tutor/Supervisor
1.4 Record the creative development of digital imaging ideas with reference to feedback
1.5 Maintain a safe working environment
Unit 03 Create, present and review final digital imaging item(s)
“In this section you will present pieces of work that demonstrate the skills you have learnt within this course.”
In this unit, learners will plan and prepare to create their final digital imaging item(s). Learners will demonstrate a basic level of skill in using their chosen materials and techniques and will produce the item(s) in accordance with set targets and following Health and Safety procedures. Learners will present the final item(s) and review its/their form and function
The learner will:
1. Create, present and review final digital imaging item(s)
The learner can:
1.1 Plan and prepare for production of final digital imaging work
1.2 Use ideas developed to inform production of final work
1.3 Produce the digital imaging item(s) showing a basic level of skill
1.4 Present final digital imaging item(s)
1.5 Review the whole creative process
1.6 Maintain a safe working environment
Each candidate is required to create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of all learning outcomes associated with each unit. Assistance will be given by myself every step of the way. There will also be times when you will be required to perform self study, both at home and in the classroom. Having Photoshop at home is not a requirement, but it will be extremely helpful. You can of course use Photoshop Elements.
If you wish to be enrolled for this course please email me asap. As with any course, it will be a first come first serve basis.
Please, only add your name to the list if you feel you can commit to completing the required work.
I know some of you have already said they wish to attend a new course, but please also confirm you wish to do this and your place will be reserved.
I will respond asap to confirm your place.
Jonathan

It looks like we will be running a 24 week Digital Imaging course from November to June. The course will have qualification at the end of it! The assessment will be projects and a portfolio of work ,NOT an exam.
However, a 24 week course is a BIG committment! So you must be sure that you can complete the 24 weeks (including all the work).
More information coming soon.
